SB338C Convention Deal
This inspection is necessary to determine the condition of your exhaust valves and guides which are the mechanical weak link in the air-cooled aircraft engines we fly. The valves and guides in air-cooled engines operate in a highly stressful environment compared to water-cooled engines. SB388C inspections are the only way to determine the exhaust valves and guides condition as it relates to future reliability and it’s fitness for further service.The cowling must be removed to gain access to the engine which in some cases will mean the removal of the propeller. Owners can remove and replace the cowling themselves or Commander Aero has offered to remove and install the cowling and other parts at their shop rate of $78.00 per hour. Many of you probably have a good understanding on how long cowling removal and installation takes.
Carol and I will do only the actual SB388C inspection. We will record the results and return the engine to service with a work order release rather then a log book notation containing a possible negative report. We are offering our services at a nominal charge of $120.00 including new Lycoming rocker box cover gaskets.
